Musical Interlude: Canon Gayageum / Beat Box / B-Boy Variation

Let it be known that donism is your source for Gayageum videos (ㅋㅋ).

If you’ve been around for a bit, you’ll know I have a thing for the graceful sounds of the Gayageum (가야금). Have a look at this older post, A little Beatles, Gayageum-style, to start your journey.

This next video, by all accounts, should be something I am opposed to, with modernisms such as breakdancing and beat boxing (I am pretty crotchety for a 25 year-old), but it works out well for an apartment complex advertisement.

The Sookmyung Gayageum Orchestra goes for it again with this ultra-modern Canon variation. Play it a few times and let it grow on you.

iTourSeoul lets Aliens reserve with ease

Nutcracker, anyone?

iTourSeoul (http://www.visitseoul.net) has been flying under my radar, and apparently also out of view of most Aliens living in Seoul. Thanks to Mr. Cornelius for letting us know about this, via a JoongAng Daily article about their forthcoming smartphone app.

The website, and the app which releases early next year, is an entertainment / leisure guide for Seoulites of English, Japanese,  Chinese, and (yes) Korean persuasions. iTourSeoul is particularly of use for those who have a hard time navigating Korean-only ticket reservation websites like Interpark (which may or may not accept your alien number). They have an online reservation system for concerts and plays in Seoul, which will be good for booking your next date.

Yeongdeungpo Times Square 1st Birthday

Times Square Bunker Party Flyer

Times Square Bunker Party Flyer

If you live in Seoul and still go to COEX, then it’s time to get out of that crowed dungeon, and head to the wide halls of and atria of Yeongdeungpo Times Square. Even when it’s full of people, you rarely feel crowded in. It also features the best theatre in Seoul (Korea?) with the “World’s Biggest Screen” (Starium), a 4D Theatre and the awesome sound of the THX관.

It opened in September 2009, so this month is its “1 Year Malling Party,” which it includes a few events, and here are the ones which interest me:

Bunker Party Season 2

Featuring: Leesang (리쌍), Supreme Team, 360 Sounds, VJ I-Spy, and 홍록기

Date + Time: Friday September 17 @ 9PM

This one is limited to 1000 people who register on their site, so sign up and hope you get in. It accepts your Alien Number but I won’t help you with the Korean, because I’m not here to help you be useless in Korea.

Brown Eyed Girls Live Appearance (and concert?)

Date + Time:  Saturday, September 18 @ 6PM

Find more performers at the official site.

Musical Interlude: After School (애프터스쿨) – Bang!

I don’t what the dude is on about at the beginning, but the high school band theme does it for me. It has the trademarks of a good K-pop song.

Also 1:56 seals the deal.

It’s kind of interesting that they have a 29 year-old as the lead. She’s about to hit the glass ceiling, though. So it’s a good thing she’s a multi-tasker (scroll down).

And now for something completely different,
