Costco Log: Sumatra French Roast Coffee

I live about 5 minutes (if I walk slow) from Costco Yangpyung (sic), which also happens to be the headquarters for Costco Korea and apparently “the friendliest Costco in Korea.” I go there mostly for cheap (and great) coffee and milk. I actually prefer Homeplus and E-Mart for your everyday products. How to get there.

Since the Rainforest Blend coffee showed up for about 15,000원 (1.15kg) — which is an amazing deal — I have been getting that and it’s delicious! Yesterday, I ran out of coffee (!!) and Costco was closed because it was 설날, Lunar New Years Day (세해 복 많이 받으세요~) so I had to suffer through the day. Today I found a new product!

Name: Sumatra French Roast Coffee
Branding: Kirkland Signature (Costco PB)
Beans: Indonesian Sumatra
Roast: French (Grade 9 – that is pretty dark)

Price: 19,990
Roaster: Rogers Family Company
Country: USA

Beer Log Vol. III – Max, The Premium Edition

Looks pretty fancy, eh? Max has always been one of the better domestic (Korean) beers, because of it’s use of real hops. When I am feeling cheap, I go for Max instead of a European beer.

Today, I was in my local Home plus ( 문래점) and I noticed an interesting-looking case of max with a glass attached to it. I am a sucker for new products and promotional items. So, I got a six-pack for 9,200원 and made my way home. Not bad. It says it uses “premium malt” and hops from Australia (Australia really has done well marketing itself in Korea). Though, that means nothing to me. It’s not so bitter, but it has a nice clean taste without the chemical aftertaste of some Korean beer.
